3.1.1 Selection: Building Standards + Systems
Review video and handout from Arch 527
Lesson Overview
Mechanical systems have a significant influence on the operation cost and greenhouse gas emissions of a building. The architect can have a huge influence in choosing these systems. This lesson provides a general overview about the mechanical systems for heating and cooling, with focus on the classification and choice of the systems. The systems are classified in:
Energy Distribution
Energy Conversion
Air Handling
Warm Water Heating
Renewable Energy Systems
The concept of energy demand and its influence on the operation cost and greenhouse gas emissions will also be explained.
Goal: The goal of the lesson is to provide a general understanding of the mechanical systems and the needs for these systems. The designer will learn how to choose different systems in order to reduce cost and greenhouse gas emissions.
