1.3.1
Code + Egress
Lesson Overview
This lesson will introduce you to how the fundamentals of building egress systems. This is crucial knowledge for any architect to understand. The concept of building egress is far more holistic than simple exiting. As much as any other design variable, building egress will fundamentally shape the plan configuration and massing of a building. The lesson will cover the components of an egress system in plan and section and introduce the code required dimensions and travel lengths for these components.
Lesson Goals
We want each and every student at Taubman College to have a full and comprehensive understanding and working knowledge to properly design a building egress system. It is part of any architect’s basic skill set….and professional responsibility.
The goals of this Lesson Series are to provide you with that background knowledge leading to an Exercise where you will be asked to synthesize the material from these lessons and demonstrate your ability to correctly manage the dimensional and building planning requirements of a proper egress system. This exercise will be invaluable in assisting you to develop a credible (and legal) egress system for your studio projects.
Code + Egress
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world.
