Lesson 3.2.2

Organizing Plumbing and Space Planning / Plumbing Riser Diagrams

Lesson Overview

This Lesson presents useful material and methods for the efficient organization of plumbing systems for multi family housing. Key recommendations for design in plan and section are included. As plumbing systems and by extension, the design of bathrooms and kitchens, are of major importance to the quality of domestic space (and a significant expense) the care in their design is of significant importance to the mature architect.

The routing of of supply water to plumbing fixtures, water and wastewater drains and, crucially, their required ventilation flues, becomes an intriguing three-dimensional puzzle for the architect. BIM / Revit modeling tools provide a helpful (and fascinating) method for coordinating these important building systems with unit and floorplan layouts, sections, structure and wall systems.
