Lesson 2.2.2

Exercise 5 Intro: Structural Systems Organization and Member Sizing

Exercise Overview

As you are developing your structural systems and considering how to integrate these with your housing design the cross section of your buildings or a given space become crucial design documents. Understanding the depth of spanning members is a key piece of coordianation between the architect and engineer.

Here we determine the cross sectional dimensions of a member using a given material to achieve a desired stiffness. Form is chosen to balance material and performance.
